As Executive Head Chef, Kevin Bonello heads up the kitchen team at the award-winning five-star property, The Grand, York. With an impressive culinary background spanning over two decades, including as Culinary Director at Michelin-starred restaurant De Mondion, Bonello brings a wealth of expertise and innovation to The Grand’s esteemed culinary team.

Devin Jones
Head Pastry Chef Devin Jones brings extensive experience of working within a range of five-star properties across South Africa. Starting out as Commis Chef in 2010 before progressing to Senior Chef De Partie and then Head Chef before joining The Grand as Head Pastry Chef.
Devin is passionate about using exciting flavour combinations and playful techniques to create showstopping pastries and desserts which elevate our guests’ experiences and help them make memories to treasure. Indulge in Devin’s carefully curated patisserie selection in our award-winning afternoon tea or enjoy one of his truly special masterpieces from our dessert menu in The Rise.
Legacy Head Chef
Ahmed Abdalla
Ahmed Abdalla heads up the kitchen brigade at The Grand, York’s fine dining restaurant, Legacy. Following it’s opening in Autumn 2022, Abdalla has already led the restaurant to being featured in The Telegraph’s ’14 Best Restaurants in York’ list and has been recognised by Michelin as one of their favourites for February this year.
Abdalla’s professional background includes numerous iconic restaurants in Yorkshire and beyond. Abdalla brings flair and expertise to Legacy and creates memorable culinary experiences for guests whilst leveraging locality and sustainability across the offering.
Not only a wonderful chef, but also a champion for The Grand’s CSR initiatives, he is keen to support charities and organisations that contribute to positively impacting communities.

Derek is Executive Sommelier of The Grand and work’s closely alongside Executive Chef Kevin Bonello, who plays a pivotal role in continuing to elevate the hotel’s focus on modern British cuisine. The restaurant offers a refined menu comprised of a carefully curated collaboration of flavours and locally sourced ingredients. Guests have the choice of an immersive wine pairing with their dining experience. All wines are expertly hand-picked by Derek to ensure each glass will be the perfect match to complement each course in the guest’s culinary journey.
